I learnt about the different taste and colour (try the purple tea!) that different types of mineral water can give to a tea, and also the amount of minutes you keep the leaves in the water: yes, minutes are counting in your holidays )! the specialties cooked with geothermic water! I decided to try a couple of teas. There are endless possibilities to choose from, and all (with ingredients) from the Azores: black and green teas, fruity and aromatised ones, infusions, and. I found my peaceful place on the terrace, overlooking the steam on one side and the green lush at the other side of a small creek.įirst: the teas. The coffee is very good, and the miniature nut-brownie included with our espresso as a special treat was all gooey-fudge and left us craving more! We can't wait to return and try the gelato- and just about every thing else in the display cases.įurnas has already lots of beautiful things to offer, but this place was my absolute highlight! Just some steps away from the Caldeiras I unexpectedly bumped into this gem. The effusive responses showered over the chocolate gifts, which were oohed and ahhed over and quickly devoured showed these chocolate experts know their stuff! The chocolate gift box collection not only tastes wonderful, but the colorful chocolates inside were called a "literal work of art" by my friend, who as an artist himself, was a high compliment.įor non-chocolate temptations on offer here-The Pastel de nata was the best I've tasted on the island so far (I've had about 1/2 a dozen). We would have purchased dark chocolate, as we prefer, but were considerately guided to the milk and white chocolate selections, which are sweeter, as we were informed Azoreans usually prefer sweet confections. Incredibly helpful staff! We bought several boxes for gifts for our Azorean friends, and were given the best advice by the counter folks. They also offer vegetarian and gluten-free options.Amazing place. The menu itself changes often driven by the availability of ingredients and the chef’s adventurous spirit, but typically includes staples like pork, lamb, and seafood including grilled octopus (my favorite!) and shrimp. It offers food made with, and often inspired by, local ingredients to produce modern Mexican food, with European and sometimes Asian flourishes. Led by chef José Francisco González the restaurant specializes in food done simply and well, driven by ingredients that can be presented as whole and pure as possible. Perched atop the historic colonial-era Casa 1810 hotel boutique is the casual eatery Trazo 1810. The combination of the view and dining and drink options make this a spot well worth the effort to find. La Azotea also offers views of three different churches, including of course the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, but also the Iglesia de San Francisco and the Templo de la Purísima Concepción. Outdoor dining is going to be even safer, and unsurprisingly San Miguel de Allende excels in that area as well, with some of the best rooftop dining in the world. (You can visit San Miguel’s tourism site to learn all about their different initiatives ensuring traveler safety) They’ve received the coveted ‘Safe Travels’ stamp from the World Tourism and Travel Council certifying San Miguel as a safe travel destination. Not to worry, the city itself has taken on health and safety measures that go above and beyond to keep visitors safe. Restaurants and bars are famously not great for social distancing and other containment measures. Of course, that might mean you’re hesitant to visit in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
